The Real Reason Egyptians & Romans Built Monuments: What We Can Learn From Legacy

Great Pyramids of Giza

Have you ever wondered why the Egyptians were so obsessed with perserving themselves in gigantic tombs?

Or why the Romans built such iconic buildings that stand till today?

One wouldn’t expect such great minds to waste their time, energy and resource making buildings for the sake of it.

They had to have some kind of purpose, right?

The answer to that is very simple: Legacy.

Legacy is about life and living. It’s about learning from the past, living in the present, and building for the future.

In reality, these iconic structures give society a glimpse at the way these civilizations lived and how they thought back then

What they considered important, their moral beliefs, and even serve as a remembrance for how people should and should not be.

They were an integral part of their culture and that is how they passed down lessons from one generation to the next

While preserving the awe and mysticism of their heritage.

How Does This Apply To You & Me Living In A Modern Society?

Well, if you are reading this article — it’s safe to assume that like us, you have taken a long thought into what your legacy means and what’s the best way to preserve it.

Many people relate legacy with death, which is a big misconception. Legacy is really about life and the living

It gives a perspective on what’s important and helps us decide the kind of life and the kind of world we want to live in — after all, death informs life.

Let’s be honest, the majority of us will never become Da Vinci, with our name and accomplishments remembered forever in the history books.

But that does not lessen our need to create some meaning in our lives, and while legacies can take many forms of achievement

We believe that the best way to preserve your legacy is through architecture.

Legacy homes are not necessarily all about being extravagant. The target area here is to come up with the design that may become the signature of your class and family.

While leaving behind a stockpile of money or a business empire for your children is amazing, the technological landscape of our world is constantly changing, what might matter today may not matter in tomorrow’s market.

Legacy architecture however…is physically built to last.

So why not to gift your children something more sustainable that may become an abode of all their happiness and life experiences?

Doing so will not only bless them with a permanent home, but it will also instill in them your core values & traditions that you carried throughout your journey.

There is no better way to encompass all your core values, beliefs, trials, tribulations, achievements and successes into a single vessel like legacy architecture.

It will act as a symbol and guiding beckon for your children and remind them of the lessons you learned on your way up.

What Can Children & Adults Learn From Legacy Architecture?

The world isn’t connected by roads and bridges, it’s connected by the stories, traditions, cultures and dreams of our society.

We are connected by the stories passed down from those who came before us and the stories we pass down to those who come after us.

For children, legacy means learning from the past.

Children have a feeling of safety and content that comes from knowing that there are adults who love them and can guide them.

Eventually life teaches them that at some point we all come across difficult decisions. So they start developing a life plan as they begin to see the bigger picture. Learning about the whole of life as well as its end also helps them establish their values and priorities.

But as we all know, it’s easy for us to lose track of the bigger picture

Which is why legacy architecture can serve as an icon or symbol to remind them of those values.

Here’s an interesting way to put it:

“Where do you think it’s best to plant a young tree: a clearing in an old-growth forest or an open field? Ecologists tell us that a young tree grows better when it’s planted in an area with older trees. The reason, it seems, is that the roots of the young tree are able to follow the pathways created by former trees and implant themselves more deeply. Over time, the roots of many trees may actually graft themselves to one another, creating an intricate, interdependent foundation hidden under the ground. In this way, stronger trees share resources with weaker ones so that the whole forest becomes healthier…”

As for adults, legacy means looking at the future. It means passing on the immortal part of yourself.

We remember our priorities and make present life choices based on them. We become content with our achievements and failures. We create personal meaning and purpose. We realize that our tiny actions eventually amount to big ripples in the grander scheme of it all. We understand that the world we leave behind is not for us, but for our children and grandchildren’s inheritance. We recognize that we have an ability to help make the future a little bit better than the past.

That’s legacy: an interconnection across time, with a need for those who have come before us.

And a responsibility to those who come after us.

WHY IS LEGACY SO IMPORTANT?

At this point you’re probably tired of hearing the word legacy, legacy, legacy, but it’s such an important concept that we believe we need to keep hammering on it.

It offers insight into human relationships and constructing strong communities, but more importantly it shows a lot about our nature.

Purpose and self-fulfillment are part of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

Without a sense of working to create something meaningful, adults lose meaning in their life. Having a strong purpose of legacy will ignite the entire range of basic human emotions.

When you start thinking about your legacy, young or old, you start to take ownership of your successes, failures, strengths and weaknesses. You will also start to become aware of the people, ideas, communities and experiences that have shaped your life and gave it meaning.

Leaving a legacy is in a way selfish — we want to become infinite. The idea of leaving something behind that will “live forever” is very attractive. We also want to feel like we matter within the vastness of our society.

From a more relatable standpoint, if you don’t pass on your hard earned life experience, the insight you’ve accumulated through endless hours of blood, sweat and tears will disappear just as your physical body will.

CONCLUSION:

You must know and be extremely connected with who you are and what you represent as an individual and a leader.

What are the values and beliefs that influence how you lead, your behavior and your attitude? Do others know the real you and what you represent as a leader for the betterment of a healthier whole?

By becoming self-aware, you will be able to better preserve your legacy and pass on the lessons of your story through your children.

By keeping legacy in mind, it allows you to remain grounded in the present moment and avoid making decisions on short term gratification or success. It reminds you that you are part of something larger than yourself.

In order to create a better quality future, we must make better quality decisions in the present.

These are just a few reasons to take the idea of legacy preservation as an important milestone in your life. Especially for wealthy families, it is a difficult task to effectively pass the wealth literacy along with the inheritance to your children.

Instead of dedicating monetary assets, leaving behind a timeless property is a great way to keep your traditions and family values alive for years to come.

However, the major challenge is in designing the legacy home that may perfectly reflect your rich culture while meeting all your current and future accommodation needs.

Here the apparent look, interior and exterior of your property is not the pressing issue. More importantly is the durability and strength of the design.
